Hello from beautiful Bergamo
Made it to Bergamo as this beautiful northern Italian city gears up to host Atalanta vs Arsenal in the Champions League
Hello, Happy Wednesday,
Or should I say, Ciao, Buon Mercoledi,
I made it to northern Italy late last night ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Atalanta, here in the beguiling city of Bergamo.
As I normally do when I arrive in a new place, no matter what time of the day or night, I like to take a stroll to get my bearings.
My late night pic inside Bergamo’s Citta Alta
And I have to say, Tuesday’s evening’s perambulation around Bergamo’s fascinating Cita Alta (upper city), or old town, and its evocative mediaeval stone walls, was wonderful, even if it left my breathless in more ways than one, when climbing the steep cobbles set alongside sturdy 16th century walls.
It was also good to catch up with a few Gooners over a few late night beers, including the legendary Matteo Scarpellini, a wonderful bloke who is a proud native of Bergamo, but also supports Arsenal just as fiercely as Atalanta.
Much more to come from Bergamo over the coming days, but with so much work ahead of the game, I’ll leave you with a few pics of Bergamo’s stunning old town that I took late last night.
