Morning,
It’s my birthday today. I won’t tell you the number, suffice to say that my youngest daughter, when contemplating my new age, simply said: ‘That’s really old.’
Thanks to everyone for the sharing the love with messages on all sorts of platforms. Humbling to have lots of wonderful presents from loved ones, but, alas, I simply couldn’t source a genuine England vs Denmark ticket. Not for a fair price. Which means Niigata in Japan remains the only place I will have seen this fixture in the flesh.
So, on the back of a hugely enjoyable pre-birthday weekend trip to stunning Cornwall, my wonderful girlfriend is taking us to Aldeburgh in Suffolk for lunch, before we head back to watch the game with friends and family on the telly.
For me the 2021-22 season starts on Saturday when I’ll be covering Hitchin Town vs Stevenage at evocative old Top Field. If I get the accreditation I’ll also be covering Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Scotland next week - maybe we can even do exclusive Q&As after pre and post match pressers on here (without breaking any embargoes of course). That’s the plan for next season at any rate.
But enough of the future, back to far more pressing matters today. In a strange quirk, the last game of the 2020-21 season falls on Sunday at Wembley - a day after my first match of the new campaign that will be the north Herts derby at Hitchin. Let’s just hope it’s England vs Italy…
Cheers
Layth
